Christ Presbyterian Church of Edina, MN sent a team of 7 college students from the U. of Minn., UM Duluth, and Augustana with John & Diana to the mountain village of Catadupa and built a much needed cement stairway leading down to the community spring. Now the elderly can reach this area to bathe and wash their clothes without navigating a treacherous path that has injured many.
Our team carried rocks, dug, shoveled, mixed and poured. This was hard work, but this group of all women accomplished more as a team than anyone could have imagined.
They also directed a VBS and sang as a choir in the Catadupa Christian Fellowship Church services. This team of young women inspired many and was led by an experienced missionary in Chelsie Frank, missions staffer from Christ Presbyterian Church.
A heartfelt “thanks” to so many who helped make this trip possible for us, including provision for our airfare.
We brought an 18 member team from Cornerstone Community Church, Northwestern College, Macalester College and a couple from Colorado. The team helped to built a school kitchen & classroom addition on a church in Cambridge. The church opened the school to preschool children this fall. The team also lead a VBS for many Jamaican children in the area. We enjoyed the whole team working together at one site. Cambridge is located deep in the mountains of St. James Parish, West Indies, Jamaica.
Going to a different village to serve was a challenge. But we had incredible servants on our team who made a lasting impression on the villagers around us for the message of the Gospel. We also brought 4 young Jamaican men from Catadupa Christian Fellowship with us for our day off. A few of them had never been on the ocean before in a boat, nor had they snorkeled!
